Belgrade, 14 April 2019 – UNICEF staff, together with Telenor and Telenor Bank employees participated in the Fun Run under the slogan Run, Do Good for the construction of inclusive children's playgrounds.
In cooperation with the Belgrade Sports Association of Persons with Disabilities, UNICEF has started the construction of inclusive playgrounds in Belgrade and Cicevac.
At least 1,000 children with and without disabilities and their families will benefit from inclusive playgrounds. These specially adapted spaces will allow children to play, enjoy sport activities, make friends, and learn about respecting diversity.
The Telenor team at the marathon consisted of 250 employees and members of their families. The company donated 200 dinars for each racing kilometre in the Fun Run, and a total of 250,000 dinars for inclusive playgrounds was raised.
“The marathon is a great opportunity to reiterate that sport has the power to unite people from different ethnic, cultural and socio-economic environments around a common noble idea - support for those in need. By building inclusive playgrounds we are making a step towards creating an inclusive society,” said Regina De Dominicis, UNICEF Representative in Serbia.
UNICEF Facers were also part of the marathon, helping runners to become part of the Friends of UNICEF Club by supporting programmes implemented by UNICEF in Serbia.
“Run, Do Good builds on the entire slogan of this year's Belgrade Marathon - Run, enjoy, help someone. The marathon is an ideal opportunity to use it as a platform for charity and support for those who need it, and to promote inclusion and equal conditions for everyone,” said Jelena Radivojević, from the Belgrade Sports Association of Persons with Disabilities.
