Belgrade, 12 May 2021 - Serbia has received a new delivery of COVID-19 vaccines procured through the COVAX Facility.
The second shipment of 120,000 doses of the AstraZeneca vaccines have arrived at Belgrade’s Nikola Tesla Airport this morning. This is a timely delivery for those Serbian citizens that are about to receive the second dose of this vaccine.
The Government of the Republic of Serbia has financed the procurement of these vaccines, while UNICEF, as a COVAX partner, has ensured that vaccines are procured, transported and delivered to Serbia. The Republic of Serbia has so far received 177,600 doses of AstraZeneca vaccines procured through the COVAX Facility.
The COVAX Facility is co-led by GAVI, the Vaccine Alliance, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations (CEPI), and UNICEF as a key delivery partner.
The goal of the COVAX initiative is to provide nations with equitable and affordable access to safe and effective vaccines against COVID-19, regardless of their income level.
