UNICEF Awards Journalists for Ethical Reporting on Children and Children’s Rights

Belgrade, 20 November 2009 – Commemorating the 20th Anniversary of 20th anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child UNICEF Serbia Office awarded its annual award for professional and ethical media reporting on children and children’s rights.

From 63 media entries submitted by 44 journalists the 2009 Award Winners are daily Blic, Radio Belgrade One and TV 5 from South Serbia.

Ms. Manuela Graf won for the article “Half the young people of Serbia have not been to a museum or a theatre” published in the “Blic” daily, Ms. Marijana Ljubisavljevic for the TV story “Better Future Through Education” broadcasted on TV5 and Ms. Ana Tomasevic for radio story “Stefan” broadcast the Radio Belgrade’s first channel. 

The media entries were reviewed based on the criteria related to the promotion of child rights and general criteria of professional reporting, including quality and ethics in reporting and public interest. 

UNICEF Area Representative Judita Reichenberg stated that the winners demonstrated leadership in journalism by showing the way that child rights and children’s issue should be portrayed in the media.

UNICEF and its partners, Delegation of the European Commision and Telenor company, have awarded the winners with the UNICEF medal and diploma, a study tour to EU institutions in Brussels and Strazbourg and  a Telenor internet modem with a one year subscription.
