Coping With COVID-19: A pandemic through a girl’s eyes

Video diary series

03 August 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the lives of people all around the world and has received extensive media attention. But too often, the voices and stories of young girls have often been missing.

Therefore, for five weeks between May and early June 2020, UNICEF collaborated with 16 adolescent girls aged 13-16, from nine different countries - Bangladesh, Chad, Ghana, India, Indonesia, Madagascar, Mali, Nepal and Niger - to share their lives through the lens of their cell phones.

By watching the series, you will receive an insider's glimpse of what it is like to cope with COVID-19 on a day-to-day basis in these girls’ hometowns and countries, including challenges they face in terms of access to education, gender inequality and harmful practices such as child marriage and female genital mutilation. All video footage was filmed by the girls themselves and captures their own words, ideas, and beliefs.
