Leonard's lesson: The Happiness is With The Family

Leonard lives in the Marginea, near Buhuși, Bacău County. He was born 12 years ago with a crooked spine and then was diagnosed with spastic paresis and hydrocephalus. A year and a few months after his birth, he had a seizure that he barely survived.

For Daniela Stan, his mother, it’s still hard to tell what she felt then. Beside Daniela was her family, but also the community team from Buhuși. Sanitary mediators Mihaela Stoleriu and Gabriela Stan told the mother she was entitled to a disability certificate. "They went with me everywhere. They supported me, they were always present. They call and tell me: you see you have to do this and that. They have a very big and good soul”, says Daniela.

After the mother applied for home schooling, Leonard began receiving visits from teacher Ramona Tărcuță. For her, Leonard is "a quiet, intelligent and open minded student. He's the ideal student, who would find his place in a classroom. He's good and funny. ”

"I will never give up school. Only when he gives it signs that he can no longer ”, says the mother.

Protected by his mother's love, Leonard wakes up every morning and does his homework, plays and dreams of the future. He has three friends who visit him and play with him. He wants many holiday gifts. "For Christmas," he says, "you don't have to be upset. You have to be happy, to have the family near you. I am happy".

Leonard is one of the beneficiaries of the "Minimum Services Package" project implemented by UNICEF, through which the mother received access to the financial assistance and medical care needed for her child, but also to home education.
