In partnership with DP World Constanța, UNICEF Romania organized its first gala in Constanța for the benefit of children on 15 July. Thanks to the generosity of the main sponsor, DP World Constanța, the 17,500 Euro raised at the event will be given over in full to fund the opening of the first multifunctional center in Constanța this autumn. Here, children, in particular those at risk, will be able to access education, healthcare and social services, while their parents can undertake parenting counseling.

“The generosity of the main sponsor, DP World Constanța, and of our traditional partners and new UNICEF friends has made it possible for us to be able to set up the first multifunctional center in Constanța this autumn. We would like to thank everyone for their support and we believe that, together, we can give children in Constanța the chance of a good start in life,” said, UNICEF Representative Edmond McLoughney.

The Constanța Gala in was attended by various celebrities, public figures and representatives of the local authorities and the business community in Constanţa. TV star Andreea Raicu hosted the event and Mihaela Călin, anchor of Antena 1 TV’s Observatorul matinal (Morning News) presented the Doll Auction, which has become a fixture in the UNICEF Romania calendar in recent years. Mihaela Călin told the guests that each donation was an investment in a child’s future and would help them to fulfill their potential. Her auctioneering expertise and the generosity of the guests made the auction for ten dolls a real success. Representatives of the company Tomini Trading made the highest ever bid for an auctioned doll: 1,950 Ron for Elemi. Host Andreea Raicu bought a doll made by children from the Special School No. of Bucharest. “I really wanted to have this doll because it was made by children for children,” she said.

UNICEF’s traditional partners Carrefour, Tomini Trading and APM Terminals joined with new partners such as Silk Root Shipping, Kapital Leading Transport, Rosal, Comvex, Romar Shipping and Zimrom to support UNICEF’s initiative to set up the first multifunctional center in Constanța.
