Donate for Nicolas and other vulnerable children
What did you dream to become when you grow up?
Nicolas is a 10 year-old boy, who wants to become an IT engineer. He has a broad smile that hides a heavy truth: he was not able to walk for a day in his life. At eight months, he had the first symptoms of spinal muscular atrophy, a disease that means he is not able to walk and which condemns him to a life in the wheelchair.
He is top of his class and he likes to be the first in everything. Mathematics and painting are his favorite activities, which he likes to talk about. He is proud of his diplomas, the drawings and the glass icon painted himself.
Asked what his three wishes would be, Nicolas replied with a smile: to walk, to talk to animals and to have a wallet that would constantly produce money.
Three types of therapy
While other children are playing, Nicolas must go to three types of therapy every day, to keep his illness under control: physiotherapy, electro-therapy and aqua therapy.
Moreover, the wheelchair in which he is moving is getting too small for him, and it will need to be replaced soon. At the last medical check-up, his parents found out that he would need orthoses to support his arms, and "that might bring a lot of pain on top of everything.", Nicolas's mother tells in tears.
How can you help?
Through the UNICEF “Community Services for Children” project, community teams of social workers, community nurses and school counselors provide children and vulnerable families with access to the medical, social and educational services they need.
Donate now and help Nicolas and other children like him to receive support from local professionals and have access to the services that can improve and change their lives.
