Internationally acclaimed Russian opera singer Maria Guleghina, a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2008, is a longtime advocate for children. Her humanitarian work includes charity concerts for the victims of the 1988 earthquake in Armenia, children in Chernobyl, students affected by the Beslan school killings, and street children in Moscow.
Ms. Guleghina has performed with the brightest stars at the world's greatest opera houses and is particularly noted for her interpretation of the title role in ‘Tosca’. She began her professional career at the State Opera in Minsk, and a year later made her La Scala debut as Amelia in ‘Un Ballo in Maschera’ under Maestro Gavazzeni, opposite Luciano Pavarotti.
"To make a real difference to all children, we have to unite," says Ms. Guleghina. "I am thrilled to be working with UNICEF to help the children of the world who are impacted by poverty, hunger or caught in conflict – and whose voices must be heard."
