The State of the World's Children 1982-83

The child survival and development revolution.

Highlights

The State of the World's Children 1982-1983 launches the 'child survival and development revolution'. Recent advances in both biological sciences and social organization – including child growth monitoring to recognize undernutrition, oral rehydration therapy to treat diarrhoea, breastfeeding and immunization against six vaccine-preventable diseases – have made it possible to save the lives of millions of children who die every year from preventable causes and to prevent an equally large number from growing up with mental or physically disabilities.
