Community-Led Total Sanitation in East Asia and the Pacific: Progress, lessons and directions

Further to the Progress on Drinking Water and Sanitation 2012 Update report by the 2012 Joint Monitoring Programme, this regional publication examines the role that Community-Led Total Sanitation (CLTS) can play in eliminating open defecation, thereby improving sanitation and hygiene. This regional review was undertaken as the first phase of a larger effort to better understand: how CLTS implementation is working in the region; why progress differs across and within countries; and what more could be done to support, improve and scale up CLTS as part of wider approaches to achieve sanitation and hygiene objectives within the region.
