Immunizing children against measles in emergencies is among the most cost-effective preventive public health measures, yet measles remains a major killer of children in emergencies. This statement advocates for urgent, structured and coordinated supplementary immunization activities, together with vitamin A supplementation, to reduce the number of measles deaths and interrupt transmission of the measles virus during and after complex emergencies.
