Breastfed, best fed

Serbia, 2011: A woman breastfeeds her newborn at a hospital in Belgrade. By beginning to breastfeed within an hour of birth, an infant’s risk of dying within the fragile first 28 days of life is significantly reduced. Less than half of the world’s newborns benefit from the most impactful and cost-effective intervention for saving their lives: breastfeeding. World Breastfeeding Week 2014 calls for greater support for mothers that, in turn, promotes breastfeeding.
