Early Childhood Education in the Philippines

Children studying inside a classroom
UNICEF Philippines/2019/Shehzad Noorani

Highlights

The research is a major investment of UNICEF Philippines with support and guidance from the Department of Education, ECCD Council Secretariat and Australia-DFAT. It generated evidence on children’s social, emotional, cognitive and language skills in the mother tongue, English and Filipino from six stages: at start of kindergarten, at end of kindergarten and at ends of Grades 1, 2,3 and 4, following a cohort of learners.

It measured growth and development at each stage and shed light on how skills develop in different learning context. The research finding underpins the importance of building the right foundations for quality learning.
