SM and UNICEF have constructed water and sanitation facilities for six primary schools in Masbate

SM is the Philippines’ largest mall and retail operator with over 30 malls nationwide.

How do you live a healthy life if you do not have access to safe drinking water or sanitation facilities?  This question is an everyday occurrence to an estimated 20 million Filipinos, many of whom are children.

To help raise funds for UNICEF’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene or WASH program in Masbate, SM Supermalls became one of the first corporate partners to engage in a cause-related marketing (CRM) activity with the Drink for 2 campaign. With every bottle of SM Distilled Water sold in 2008, 25 centavos went directly to provide over 1,500 children and 1 barangay in Masbate access to safe drinking water and basic sanitation facilities.

Partnership milestones

  • Construction of sanitary toilets and garbage pits for 1 barangay and 6 primary schools in Masbate
  • SM supports UNICEF’s health programs by having breastfeeding stations in all of its malls
  • UNICEF’s anti-child pornography campaign is also supported by SM Cyberzone
