About us

UNICEF is an agency of the United Nations devoted to serving the world’s children. UNICEF began providing assistance to the Philippines in November 1948. Since then, we and the Philippine government have been partners in protecting Filipino children.

UNICEF Philippines has more than 60 people working to promote and protect the rights of children. We aim to provide the best quality of life for every Filipino child through programmes that help them survive and flourish.

We implement programmes covering education, health and nutrition, HIV and AIDS prevention, child protection, communication, and local policy and institutional development.

We support the Child-Friendly Movement, which engages all levels of government, non-government partners, civil society, other United Nations agencies, and children themselves.

We are the world’s leading child rights advocacy organization. Our global experience and mandate allow us to influence and support decision makers to create a world fit for children. Our expertise and commitment help the Philippines meet the challenges facing children and those who safeguard them.

What we do

UNICEF Philippines works to: help children develop into their full potential ; enroll and keep kids in school; create a safe and protective environment; ensure that children’s voices are heard and counted; involve and mobilize society to fulfil, promote and protect children’s rights; and assist and protect children in emergencies and disasters.

How we do it

UNICEF always works with others to improve the situation of children. Partnerships are essential because the challenges before us are too great for any single agency to solve alone. When we say “UNICEF does this,” we always mean that we have done it together with others.

Enabling people to help themselves is a significant part of what UNICEF does. Through cooperation and partnerships, we share our global knowledge and experiences to help find local solutions.

Whom do we work with to build a world fit for children?

Governments are our main partners. We collaborate with everyone from Heads of State, lawmakers, ministers, municipal and city officials, village heads and community councils.

Non-governmental organizations, international and national, youth groups, women’s organizations, religious groups, community and family collectives. We work with all at one time or another.

Children and young people are involved in what UNICEF does. When they have a voice in public debate, everyone benefits.

Goodwill Ambassadors. Influential men and women from all walks of life work with us to make change happen in the present and to plan for it in the future.

Donors and the private sector, as UNICEF is funded entirely by voluntary contributions. The majority of our income comes from governments. We also receive significant help from the private sector – businesses and individuals – who contribute funds or in-kind support to many aspects of our work
