Grover and Lucy Liu talk parenting
Grover: Hello, everybodee! It is I, your cute and adorable pal Grover – monster of many talents. I have been called an expert waiter... an expert taxi driver... but never an expert in parenting. And I have heard “PARENT” is the most important job of all! So, I invited a REAL parenting expert to share her wisdom. My friend, Ms. Lucy Liu!
Lucy Liu: Hi, Grover! What’s going on?
Grover: Hello, Lucy Liu, parenting expert!
Lucy Liu: Oh, I don’t think I’d call myself an “expert,” Grover. I’m just a mom.
Grover: “Mom” sounds like a very important title! So, tell us, Lucy, what advice do you have for parents?
Lucy Liu: Well, every family is unique. But I can talk about what works for MY family.
Grover: I am listening…
Lucy Liu: Raising my son is the most wonderful – and also the most challenging – job I’ve ever had. I sometimes feel that as a parent, I am responsible for everything he needs to grow up happy and healthy. I’m able to give my son yummy, healthy foods to eat, a safe and loving environment – and lots of learning and playtime with me.
Grover: Yummy food? Playtime? You make parenting sound like fun! But did you not say it was challenging?
Lucy Liu: Parenting is a LOT of fun, Grover – but it’s not always easy. We face challenges – just like families everywhere. Sometimes my son feels frustrated – and sometimes I do, too. But we learned some great strategies to help us calm down.
Grover: Oh, I know a very good one! It is called "belly breathing.” I will demonstrate! [Grover breathes I-N-N-N and O-U-U-T]!
Lucy Liu: That’s a great one for both kids AND parents, Grover. And here is another one. Asking for help! It’s OK for parents to ask for help when we’re feeling tired or stressed. Taking care of our own wellbeing is an important part of parenting, too.
Grover: Lucy Liu, you are starting to sound like an expert after all! Thank you for your words of wisdom! I will let you get back to parenting.
Lucy Liu: Awww, thanks Grover! See you later!
Grover: Good bye!
