Elmo: Oh, oh, can Mommy please help Elmo set up the big block tower for Elmo’s castle?
Mae: I would love to, Elmo. Mommy’s just taking a minute to talk to some friends, OK?
Elmo: Oh, okay Mommy!
Mae: Hello everyone and welcome to Mae’s Minute. You know, I really do only have about a minute, because as you heard, we’re all gonna play together as a family.
And speaking of families, COVID-19 has caused lots of changes for our family, and let me tell you, some of those changes have been stressful.
Elmo and I have been spending a lot more time together, because our one-on-one time really helps us both with all the changes to our routine.
I know that I am so lucky that I can give Elmo the extra love he needs right now, and I’m lucky that he gives me the love I need right back.
I like to say that our family is a team. Teams take care of each other, and in our family, that is exactly what we do!
Every day we take turns choosing what to play as a family. Elmo loves making up games, and his daddy likes telling stories, and I like playing with blocks. But we always do it together.
And most importantly, we listen to each other. You know, when Elmo and I play, we like to talk about what we’re feeling. Sometimes we’ll draw pictures of our feelings; and sometimes we’ll act them out; sometimes we just cuddle and talk.
Well, the important thing is Elmo knows we’re there for him - we are a team.
Elmo: Are you ready to play Mommy?
Mae: Oh yes, Elmo! I’m ready to play.
Well, that is my minute! Coming Elmo!
