UNICEF in collaboration with the Elementary and Secondary Education Department (E&SED) and the Local Education Group (LEG), designed a five-year programme known as the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Education Improvement Programme (KP-EIP). The KP-EIP was designed to improve the education system of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) by enhancing access, quality and efficiency of the education system. The targeted beneficiaries of the KP-EIP programme are out-of-school children (nearly 2.1 million in KP) including girls, children with mild disabilities and refugee children. The KP-EIP is a five-year plan which is expected to start in 2021 and end in 2025. The programme is comprised of three components and six subcomponents which are further divided into intermediate results. It is to be implemented in the 20 programme districts
including 7 merged districts and 13 settled districts.
