UNICEF SPENDS MONEY
WHERE IT IS NEEDED THE MOST
ON THE MOST
Despite the continued global economic downturn, cash
contributions in 2012 were 8 per cent higher than the previous
year – proof that our donors continue to trust that we will save
and improve the lives of children.
WHY INVEST IN UNICEF?
UNICEF has a universal mandate to promote the rights of all children – especially those hardest to reach. We do this well because we are in
the countries where we are most needed. And we work particularly well in complex and challenging situations. For this, we depend on our
public and private donors.
WITH PROGRAMMES OF COOPERATION IN
155 COUNTRIES, AREAS AND TERRITORIES,
WE WORK BOTH AT THE HIGHEST LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT AND AT COMMUNITY LEVEL.
This unique combination of what we call the ‘upstream’ and ‘downstream’ work allows us to link policies and programmes that make a
difference in the lives of millions of children and their families.
It also allows us to be present before, during and after crises – responding quickly and effectively.
Regular Resources – funds that are not earmarked for any particular use – are critical to our work. They help us to fulfill the rights of all
children in all situations. They enable us to provide assistance wherever it is needed, including in emergencies, after conflict or disaster
has passed, and building back during recovery.
The flexibility of Regular Resources makes the organization more nimble and effective than it would otherwise be.
