UNICEF Representative to Myanmar a.i.
Born in Italy, Alessandra has lived and worked in four Continents. She speaks five languages; has a Master’s degree in International Relations from LUISS University in Rome and a Master’s in Culture, Values and Education from McGill University in Montreal.
She started working with UNICEF in Malawi, in June 2000 first as Child Protection Officer, and then as Child Protection Specialist. She continued to work in that thematic area until 2013, first leading a medium-sized team in Rwanda, piloting one of the first UNICEF-supported cash transfer schemes in ESARO, and then leading one of the most complex Child Protection programmes globally in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
She was appointed Deputy Representative in the Mali Country Office in October 2013, and then Deputy Representative in Syria in November 2017. She was appointed UNICEF Deputy Representative to the Republic of the Union of Myanmar in February 2020: she has been ensuring the interim of the Representative position since April 2021.
She has been married to Thierry for 26 years: they have a house in the countryside in Southern Italy and a dog named Ulf.
