European Union helps communities affected by cyclones Idai and Kenneth in Mozambique
Cold chain equipment in health centres and motorcycles for mobile brigades are donated by the European Union.
With support from European Civil Protection & Humanitarian Aid Operations (ECHO), UNICEF and CHAI installed cold chain equipment at health facilities that were affected by cyclones Idai and Kenneth.
This will help restore the vaccine cold chain in 41 health facilities in Manica, Sofala, and Cabo Delgado provinces and benefitted over 97,000 children and women. UNICEF also procured 150 vaccine carriers, freezers, 19 temperature monitoring devices; 500 ice packs, 4 voltage stabilizers; and 4 electric refrigerators, and 1 freezer.
With support from European Union, UNICEF and CHAI donated motorcycles in cyclone-affected districts, in Sofala, Manica and Cabo Delgado provinces. These motorcycles will help the planning and implementation of 554 mobile outreach to remote communities of which 270 are in Sofala, 90 in Manica and 194 in Cabo Delgado.
This contribution made it possible to reach 14,701 children under the age of five with immunization services, sick child consultation, supplementation of Vitamin A and Deworming during implementation.
