Niassa, Mozambique - On February 21, the first local stakeholders coordination meeting of the European Union (EU) funded programme AguaNorte, took place in the town of Marrupa, in Niassa Province, one of the three targeted small towns of the programme. The other targeted small towns of this programme are Memba in Nampula province and Namuno in Cabo Delgado province, where similar meetings were conducted last year.

The AguaNorte's overall objective is to ensure access to equitable and sustainable water and sanitation services and infrastructure for the population in the northern towns of Mozambique, specifically in Memba, Namuno and Marrupa.

Various stakeholders at the national, provincial, district, and municipal levels, including local leaders and neighbourhood chiefs, the EU and the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), were part of the meeting, where the key objective was to inform about the programme objectives, expected results, work plan, and programme coordination structure, as a way of ensuring that the local stakeholders actively participate in the implementation right from the begging as they are ultimate beneficiaries of the programme.
