Developing Local Plans of Action for Children in Montenegro

PODGORICA, Montenegro - July 27, 2010 - In 2004, the Government of Montenegro adopted a national Plan of Action for Children's Rights for the period 2004-2010 in line with the UN Declaration A World Fit for Children adopted during the UN General Assembly Special Session on Children in May 2002. According to this plan, five municipalities in Montenegro have developed Local Plans of Action for Children (LPAs) with UNICEF support – Bijelo Polje, Bar, Berane, Niksic and Tivat.

The roundtable held in Podgorica on the 27th of July was an opportunity for representatives of LPA municipalities and representatives of additional municipalities who have expressed their interest to develop their LPAs, government partners and civil society organizations to exchange experiences, lessons-learned and jointly contribute to the creation of local strategies and policies to protect and promote children’s rights in local communities throughout Montenegro.
