It’s about ability campaign continues in 2011: new billboards, TV commercial and special events in June 2011

PLJEVLJA, JUNE 3, 2011 – Within the second phase of the It’s about ability campaign, Pljevlja’s municipal parliament will have a special session on creating inclusive local communities from 11.00 to 12.30 on Friday, June 3.

Velimir Golubović, president of the municipal parliament, will address the local parliament at the beginning of the session, while the UNICEF Representative Noala Skinner will talk to the parliamentarians about the benefits and the good practices of promoting inclusion of children with disabilities in the local community. Parliamentarians will also have a chance to hear the voices of Pljevlja’s children through the speech of a child representative of the voluntary club “Ray of Hope”. Ms. Svetlana Dujovic will speak on behalf of Pljevlja’s parents of children with disabilities.

Billboards showing Montenegro’s children with disability as active members of society  and the campaign’s key messages “We see our children”, “We see opportunities”, “We see love”, “We see friendship” and “We see strength” will be posted all over the country in June, August and October 2011.

“Our messages in 2011 build on the ones from last year - Where many see difficulties, we see opportunities; where many see obstacles, we see friendship; where many see weakness, we see strength/courage; and where many see burden, we see love. The It’s about ability campaign aims to increase the number of people who see opportunities, friendship, love, strength and Montenegro’s children when they see children with disabilities,.” says UNICEF Montenegro Representative Noala Skinner.

A new TV commercial will be distributed to all media for broadcasting starting from June in order to continue inviting Montenegrin citizens to welcome children with physical and/or learning disabilities into their homes, communities and hearts without fear or prejudice.

Special events with children with and without disabilities, representatives of national and local authorities, international community, media, parents, teachers, artists and citizens will be organized every month.

“We will continue supporting children with disabilities in making their voices heard through the campaign’s special events in 2011. We will continue to create opportunities for Montenegrin citizens to regularly meet with children with disabilities and to see their potential and abilities.” concludes UNICEF Montenegro Representative Noala Skinner.
