The years from 0 to 2 are critical for establishing the future full potential of the child. It is during this period that more than 70% of the child's brain development takes place. Therefore, interventions which relate to physical, psychosocial and cognitive development will have far reaching benefits for the child in the longer term. There is enough evidence to show that investments in the quality of care for poor children pay back many times over in better education results, higher productivity and positive behaviour later in life.
