The vaccination campaign against COVID-19 is taking place in the Republic of Moldova

About vaccination
The vaccine against COVID-19 is a major tool for pandemic control, along with effective testing and prevention measures. Vaccination is currently the only chance to prevent SARS COV-2 virus disease, severe disease and COVID-19 deaths.
The vaccination process against COVID-19 in the Republic of Moldova is carried out in accordance with the National Immunization Plan. The document can be accessed here: https://bit.ly/3vUaiX7
At the beginning of March, the Republic of Moldova received 14,400 doses of COVID-19 vaccines, delivered through the COVAX platform, in partnership with CEPI, Gavi, UNICEF and WHO. Moldova was the first country in the European region to receive vaccines against COVID-19 through COVAX.
This delivery marked a historic step towards the goal of ensuring the equitable distribution of COVID-19 vaccines globally, being the largest vaccine procurement and operation in history.
COVAX is a global initiative that aims to accelerate the development and manufacture of COVID-19 vaccines and ensure equitable access to free COVID-19 vaccines for 20% of the population for 92 countries that are part of the initiative. COVAX is managed by the Global Alliance for Vaccines and Immunizations (GAVI), the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Coalition for Innovation in Anti-Epidemic Preparedness (CEPI).
Currently, the vaccines are present in the Republic of Moldova: AstraZeneca, Pfizer, Janssen, Sinovac and Sinopharm, the population having the opportunity to choose which vaccine they want for administration, free of charge, at the family doctor or in any vaccination center in the country.
As of October 28, the Republic of Moldova has administered 1,508,479 doses, constituting 25.84% national coverage with a single dose and 24.84% national coverage with a complete scheme. Medical workers vaccinated with a dose represent 91.02%, and with the complete scheme: 90%.

COVID-19 with its new variants causes daily deaths, and medical institutions can hardly cope with serious cases. In this context, the health authorities warn and urging the population to be vaccinated to protect their health.
Stela Cornilova, deputy medical director of the Municipal Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases Children was among the first vaccinated medical staff.

We must not be afraid of innovations in medicine. I have high expectations from the vaccine - that the number of diseases will decrease, and the cases of infection among the medical staff will be minimal.
During 2021, the COVAX mechanism is expected to deliver 24,570 doses of BioNTech-Pfizer vaccine and up to 264,000 doses of AstraZeneca vaccine to the Republic of Moldova. Statement by the UNICEF Representative in Moldova, Maha Damaj:
UNICEF has created an information panel on the COVID-19 vaccine market, which reflects the COVID-19 vaccine market. This is an interactive tool that allows countries, partners and industry representatives to follow the rapid changes in the COVID-19 vaccine market, as well as the efforts of COVAX Facility to ensure fair and equitable access for every country in the world.
