"Swim for Peace: Swim for Children", which is taking place in this year of the 30th anniversary of the Convention of the Rights of the Child (CRC), and on the eve of the International Friendship Day.

Of course, “friendship” being a very valuable feeling in people’s lives, is to be celebrated every day, and it is especially in sports and music that friendship always wins. One of the objectives of International Friendship Day is also to inspire children, young people and future leaders to become involved in community mobilization activities aimed at accepting social and cultural differences.

Ion Lazarenco swam 30 kilometers on the Dniester River for eight and a half hours.

The athlete started at six o'clock in the morning, near Jora de Mijloc, Orhei district, and arrived in the village of Molovata, Dubasari district. On the shore, the athlete was waited by the 130 La La Play children choir that sang songs about peace.

Sports and music can help stop intolerance and harassment, so that all children feel safe - at home, in school, and in the community. And there is no better way to invest in and build a peaceful future than by serving today’s children, as they are tomorrow’s leaders and decision-makers.

Ion Lazarenco is the only person on earth, who managed to swim through all seven channels from the first try!
