UNICEF and Orange Moldova – Together to Improve the Protection, Education, and Well-being of Children and Youth in Moldova
Chisinau, 4 June 2024 – The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Orange Moldova, the leading telecommunications operator in the country. The document was signed during a visit by the UNICEF team to the Orange Digital Centre. The primary objective of this strategic partnership is to leverage innovative solutions to enhance the protection, well-being, and education of children and youth in Moldova, especially in rural areas.
According to this Memorandum of Understanding, Orange Moldova will provide its expertise to align UNICEF's programmes with the latest standards and practices in utilizing new technologies to ensure that every child and young person can benefit from equal development opportunities in line with digitalization trends. More specifically, UNICEF and Orange Moldova will explore the use of modern technologies and smart data to innovate interventions in education, youth, child protection, and social protection. Additionally, the partnership will identify and implement information and communication technology (ICT) solutions to ensure digital inclusion and seek other research and innovation partnerships with national impact.
"We are proud to sign this Memorandum of Understanding, which represents a unique opportunity for both UNICEF and Orange Moldova to unite all efforts for a noble cause – for a better life for every child. This partnership underscores our commitment to investing in children's future, ensuring they have access to the tools and opportunities necessary to thrive in a digital world," said Maha Damaj, UNICEF Country Representative in the Republic of Moldova.
"Signing today's memorandum is an additional opportunity for us to help children to prepare and integrate in the ever-changing world, but also to come up with responsible, safe and sustainable actions for every child or young person. We firmly believe that everyone, regardless of age and place of residence, should have fair access to technology and know how they can use it to improve their standard of living. Starting with today, Orange reaches even closer to children all over the country through the IT expertise of our employees. Together, we will help the UNICEF team to use technological innovations in digitization programs in education and in the field of social and child protection," said Olga Surugiu, General Manager of Orange Moldova.
The Memorandum of Understanding between UNICEF and Orange Moldova will be implemented until 4 June 2026.
