Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) contributes US$15 million to UNICEF’s WASH interventions in Yemen

Sana’a, 11 June 2023 – The Qatar Fund for Development (QFFD) has contributed US$15 million to help UNICEF strengthen sanitation and water systems in Yemen. This generous contribution will support the implementation of 13 water and sanitation projects in 11 major cities across Yemen.

The interventions under this grant will focus on strengthening and improving the service delivery of water supply and sanitation systems to provide safe water and sanitation services for communities affected by the conflict and vulnerable to waterborne diseases. UNICEF, through QFFD’s support, will reach more than 4 million people with WASH interventions, such as rehabilitation/upgrade and improvement of water supply and sanitation systems and facilities including installation of solar powered water systems, provision of supplies for water network to reach targeted households in the 11 governorates of Hodeida, Dhamar, Al Bayda, Hajjah, Taiz, Lahj, Al Jawf, Saada, Aden, Hadramout and Abyan. In addition, the projects will also help build the capacity of the Ministry of Water & Environment and the Local Water & Sanitation Corporations’ staff and improve WASH sector coordination for an effective response in Yemen.
