KHARTOUM- 17 October 2021- “While acknowledging the right of children to participation and to express their opinions, this should always be with due consideration to protection of children at all times. Children should not be subjected to any form of violence, neglect, injury, harm or exploitation. This is in line with the Sudanese Child Act of 2010 and The Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).

“The practice of mobilizing children to take part in protests, marches and other political events is in disregard of their well-being and safety. Protection of children must always be prioritized.

“UNICEF urges all those involved in these events and other protests to protect children and keep them out of harm’s way, in line with their obligations under International Humanitarian Law and Human Rights Law.

“UNICEF is committed to working with national partners and the international community to protect the children of Sudan and uphold their rights at all times.”
