Main sequences: In October 2005, an earthquake struck northern Pakistan, killing 73,000, leaving 3 million homeless, and destroying nearly 6,000 schools. UNICEF pledged to reconstruct some of the destroyed schools with earthquake-resistant permanent buildings, such as the one in Banaw Langla village that just opened.
