UNICEF in emergencies

UNICEF is responding to an unprecedented number of major humanitarian emergencies facing children and their families around the world.

Here journalists can find the most recent news and resources on children caught in these crises, UNICEF’s response and key contacts in each region.

  Central African Republic 
The acute humanitarian crisis continues to unfold. Ongoing violence has affected more than 1.2 million children.
  Burundi
As a result of political instability and civil unrest, approximately 1.1 people are in urgent need of humanitarian assistance.
  Nigeria Regional Crisis
More than 2 million people have been displaced as result of conflict in Nigeria. Of those 1.1 million are children.
 

Iraq
Since 2014 more than 3.4 million Iraqis have been violently uprooted from their homes and approximately 5.2
million children are in desperate need of assistance.

  Refugee and migrant crisis
Tens of thousands of children are at risk of abuse, exploitation and death due to the ongoing refugee and migrant crisis in Europe. Recent border closures in the Western Balkans have left 50,000 refugees stranded in Greece.
  South Sudan
Over the last three years 2.3 million people have been displaced. More than 230,000 children under the age of 5 are now severely acutely malnourished.
  Syria
Now in its 6th year, the ongoing conflict has left 6 million children in Syria in urgent need of life-saving assistance and has left more than 4 million Syrians living as refugees.
  Yemen
Some 10 million children in Yemen now require humanitarian assistance. Food, water and fuel shortages are pushing the country towards complete
