UNICEF statement on Tweet by National Ambassador of the Dutch National Committee for UNICEF

NEW YORK, 19 June 2014 – The football related tweet issued yesterday in her private capacity by Nicolette Van Dam, who is also a national ambassador for the Dutch National Committee for UNICEF, was inappropriate and highly offensive. UNICEF condemns its content.

We believe that sport has the power to bring about enormous positive change for children all around the world, and must be based on respect and fair play – core values for UNICEF.
