“Eyes on the South”, an open forum organized by UNICEF on 18 December, will highlight three pioneering initiatives from the South that are now being used in the north:

• A cash benefits programme from Mexico that enables poor families to send their children to school and receive health check-ups – now being replicated in New York City;
• A model of civic participation in municipal budget formulation (including child and youth participation) in Brazil that is now being used in Seville, Spain;
• A strategy to prevent HIV and AIDS that was developed in Uganda and is now being adapted in the USA.

The “Eyes on the South” Forum runs from 10 am to 6 pm. All sessions are open to the media.
