Pictorial tribute to UNICEF staff in Iraq

Chris Klein-Beekman (right), with a UNICEF colleague, visiting a ‘child-friendly’ space on August 17, 2003, in Baya, a southern district in Baghdad, Iraq.

We would like to pay tribute to our colleagues in Iraq.  UNICEF has had a permanent presence in Iraq since 1983 and remains committed to its humanitarian mission.  We regret the loss of our colleague Chris Klein-Beekman, who was killed in the UN bombing in Baghdad, and hope for a quick recovery by Polly Brennan, who was injured as a result of the bombing.

Thanks to the dedication of our staff in Iraq for their continued efforts in the aftermath of these traumatic events.
