What: Embargoed telephone briefings to discuss the findings of UNICEF’s flagship annual report State of the World’s Children which focuses this year on the impact of digital technology on children and young people worldwide.

WHO: Laurence Chandy, UNICEF Director of Data, Research and Policy.

WHEN: 11.00 PST and 13.00 GMT Wednesday 6 December 2017.

WHERE: The briefings will be conducted over the telephone at two intervals to accommodate different time zones. Please contact Georgina Thompson by email gthompson@unicef.org or phone +1 917 238 1559 to sign up, receive dial-in details and obtain an embargoed copy of the report.

WHY: As the debate about whether or not the internet is safe for children rages on, UNICEF’s report The State of the World’s Children 2017: Children in a digital world discusses how digital access can be a game changer for children or yet another dividing line. The report represents the first comprehensive look from UNICEF at the different ways digital technology is affecting children, identifying dangers as well as opportunities. It makes a clear call to governments, the digital technology sector and telecom industries to create policies, practices and products to help children harness digital opportunities and protect them from harm.
