Ms. Hannan Sulieman was appointed Director and Chief of Staff, UNICEF, in April 2016.
Prior to this appointment she served as UNICEF’s Deputy Regional Director for the Middle East and North Africa, based in Amman.
With 23 years of service in UNICEF, Ms. Sulieman has extensive expertise in programme management, emergency response, resource mobilization and partnerships. She was Deputy Representative at UNICEF Somalia during the tragic famine of 2011, when she coordinated the programme response. Prior to that, she served as Deputy Representative at UNICEF Egypt and Senior Liaison Officer/Adviser to thr UN Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary General (DSRSG) in Afghanistan during a critical period of transformation. She has also served in various capacities at UNICEF Headquarters.
Ms. Sulieman is a dual national of Sudan and the United Kingdom. She holds a Bachelor's Degree in Biology and a Master’s Degree in Organizational Management.
She speaks fluent Arabic and English.
