Christian Larsson is the Chief Information Officer of UNICEF.
He has over 25 years of experience building strong ICT governance and driving organizational change through digitalization at scale. More recently, this entails transitioning the internal expertise to leverage technology towards innovative delivery of development assistance.
Before becoming CIO, Larsson held senior Regional ICT positions in Latin America & the Caribbean and Eastern & Southern Africa. Other experiences include the private sector, working with Ericsson as a production engineer, and technology roles in Swedish development assistance.
Most recently, Larsson was the Deputy Director for Digital Strategy, Risk and Governance, developing and implementing the IT strategy and plans, and managing the resources and personnel. Under Larsson’s leadership, most of the information technology function moved to Valencia, Spain, where it is now co-located with other UN agencies. The new HQ ICT function also includes smaller ICT teams in New York to support headquarters divisions and in Nairobi to support programmatic digitalization.
