COVID 19 hit Malaysia and caught most off guard just as much as the rest of the globe. In responding to the pandemic, the Ministry of Health and WHO issued advice and recommended practices to help contain the spread. For certain vulnerable communities, these basic practices were at times difficult to implement.

Throughout the year, in collaboration with Mercy Malaysia, UNICEF distributed hygiene supplies and held awareness raising sessions in schools, alternative learning centres, low cost flats, detention centres and other community locales in strategic parts of the country in order to help contain the spread of COVID-19. The chart below shows to date the number of items distributed and awareness programmes conducted.

The outreach sessions would not have been possible without the dedicated support from implementing partner, Mercy Malaysia and funding support from the Government of Japan.
