This year, the world celebrates 20 years since the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which affirms that every child is born with basic human rights. This legally-binding treaty has led to great progress in improving the lives of children worldwide, but many challenges remain in ensuring that no child is left behind, particularly in achieving education.

UNICEF and the Malaysian Bar Council will convene a forum themed 'Education for Every Child' to discuss challenges facing children in Malaysia, and inspire commitments from various sectors to push the education agenda for every child.

At the forum, a special anniversary edition of UNICEF's flagship publication 'State of the World's Children' report will be launched. For the first time, this report will contain a guest essay contributed by Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister YB Tan Sri Dato' Muhyiddin Yassin about Malaysia's journey in reducing educational disparities.

Available to attending media: Broadcast quality 3-minute video news report on initiatives to bring education to Penan children and women in Sarawak.
