Despite significant strides made by the Government of Malaysia to improve child protection measures in recent years, statistics from the Department of Social Welfare show a rise in reported child abuse cases in Malaysia. In 2008 alone, an average of 7 children were reported to be abused every day.

In response to this alarming trend, UNICEF will launch the “Get on Board” public campaign, a two-month initiative, to drive home the message of child protection with a rallying call to action: ‘Raise your hand. Stop child abuse now!’ The digitally-driven Campaign, a first by UNICEF in the region, aims to unite 100,000 Malaysians to express their support for action and to learn and respond to child abuse. A special website will go live on 6 October. The website initially in English, will also be made available in Bahasa Malaysia by early November.
