Although children and young people under 18 years old form one third or more of their nation’s population in many parts of the developing and under-developed world, few ever have the chance to be heard. Guided by the Convention on the Rights of the Child, UNICEF works to change this situation by providing young people with innovative platforms to express themselves on issues that affect their lives, to create awareness in their communities and influence decision-making. Theoneminutesjr is one such project which equips young people with technical skills to utilise digital media to share their stories using their own words. Young people involved in media projects gain confidence in being part of a process, in which they exchange ideas, make decisions, take action and can see the tangible results of their efforts.
NOTE TO EDITORS:
A CD-ROM with a selection of photographs from the five-day Workshop will be shared with attending media.
