As World Immunization Week is observed across the world from 24 to 30 April with the theme “Long Life for All,” Malawi’s professional football export Gabadinho Mhango has added his voice to underscore the significance of vaccines against life threatening diseases.

“Together we can dispel the myths, appreciate the legitimacy of vaccine development and ensure everyone has access to vaccines,” said Gabadinho, currently playing at Orlando Pirates, a South African premier league side.

This year’s week is focused on the theme “Long Life for All” which is intended to convey the historical significance the development of vaccines has had on the world and their importance to a long and healthy life.

For the past two decades, more than 1.1 billion children have been immunized, saving 4-5 million lives each year and helping to reduce child deaths by half.

Gabadinho joins a pool of influential celebrities mobilized by UNICEF to support sharing accurate information about vaccines as well as access to vaccines across the globe.

In a related development, UNICEF Malawi has also engaged the soccer star in domesticated polio vaccination campaign awareness messages.
