I am child
Remembering child rights
Shameemah Morta
I am a child
I am like a flower
That’s yet to bloom.
Give me a little more time to grow.
I am tender,
Prone to harm,
Hold my hand,
Or I’ll easily fall.
I am illiterate,
Shower me with knowledge,
Open up the curtains,
Enlighten me with wisdom,
Lead me on a road
With a bright future ahead.
I am vulnerable,
Shelter me from weeds,
Strong winds pushing me down,
Hold me up when I fall to the ground.
I am playful,
Be patient with me.
Don’t pluck me when am wrong,
For I’ll beautify the world later on.
I’ll be an adult tomorrow,
I’ll teach others what you teach me,
So teach me right,
Protect my rights,
For truly,
Though I may look all grown outside,
I am a child,
Little inside.
