At only 18 years old, Laura Rasoanaivo won titles in her discipline, judo. In addition to her passion for her favourite sport, Laura is mature and calm – which undoubtedly are important components that help her build her career.

She answers five questions to help us better understand her and help young people draw inspiration from her experience.

I'm Laura Rasoanaivo,18, judoka, champion of Madagascar, gold medallist at the 2019 Island Games, gold medallist at the 2020 Reunion International Tournament, and recently gold medallist at the African Junior Individuals Championships 2022.

1. What makes you get up in the morning? Your motivation?

I wake up early in the morning to achieve my life goals, create and realize my dreams. This allows me to create a healthy lifestyle, and above all to be productive to fill up on energy.

2. How would you describe your typical day to a child?

Three words sum up my day: sports, reading, study. Every day, I do my best to finish what I started. But what makes me happiest is having a good time with those I love.

3. What is your greatest personal and professional achievement?

My greatest personal achievement so far is how I built myself mentally, what I have become over the years and my victories in almost all competitions.

4. What is your philosophy of life?

My philosophy of life is “Love yourself, then love what you do and create your happiness”.

5. Since your last Ted talk with UNICEF, what has changed in your life and your way of approaching the world?

Since my Ted Talk in 2019, I have matured, I have taken everything positive, and I have learned to be happier and to tell myself that all work pays off one day or another even if it takes time.

I would like to tell young people and children not to stop dreaming big, and not to let go of what matters to you. We can meet the challenges, despite the difficulties. It is not only necessary to work “hard”, but to work well and intelligently, to remain constant and above all to be patient in what you do.

I would like to tell young people and children not to stop dreaming big
