Back To School and Learning materials, a way to enhance education.
Two students from Collège d'Enseignement Général Marcoz in Majunga I make good use of the materials produced by the Back To School and Learning program.
Sandra, daughter of a butcher and a greengrocer, and Félicien, son of a jobless man and a laundrywoman, study at the Collège d'Enseignement Général Marcoz in Majunga.
Even if they are not poor, their parents struggle to provide them with a decent education. Between all the needs and other costs of compulsory schooling, they lack school supplies. Not to mention that after school, at the end of the week too, they are often forced to work and help their parents with household chores. This is detrimental to their ability to thrive in their studies.
Shortly after the college benefited from the Back To School and Learning program's educational materials, Sandra improved rapidly, quoting that: "To properly assimilate the explanations given by the teachers at school, when I get home, with the little time I have left after helping my parents, redoing the exercises is a way of differentiating myself from the other students, but I couldn't do any better, as I didn't have the appropriate notebooks and books. Then, all of a sudden, our teacher announced that UNICEF was going to provide us with teaching materials. I was so happy that I promised myself I would improve as much as I could to get better results”.
Indeed, according to her teacher, Sandra scored first rank in the following mid-term exams, with an average of 16.63/20, which surprised everyone except her.
This young student is very ambitious and wants to become a lawyer. Convinced and assured by her own motivation and strong will, she is bound to succeed and achieve her dream.
Like Sandra, Félicien has also made great progress, in his opinion: "The school materials I received, in addition to the learning book, helped me a lot and I noticed that learning became easier. As a result, I got better results in the first tests, and I also came first rank in my class.
The General superintendent noted that Sandra and Félicien stood out from the other students and mentioned that: " Unlike what happened in previous years, this time all the students benefited from the educational materials. However, Sandra and Félicien are unique in their ability to take advantage of the availability of what they previously lacked. In any case, the two students are already recognized for their dedication, and have already been entrusted with certain responsibilities related to the Back To School and Learning program.”
