UN: Syrian Refugees in Lebanon Struggle to Survive Amid Worst Socio- economic Crisis in Decades
Girls sit outside the community centre at Chatila, a camp for Palestinian refugees in a suburb of Beirut, the capital.  In June 2005 in Lebanon, children represent almost one-third of the population. The Government has mandated free and compulsory education for all children up to age 15 and school enrolment has increased almost 40 per cent annually during the past five years. However, these significant achievements mask the struggles of public schools to meet demand.
