World Children's Day in Laos
Laos has answered the call to Go Blue and has celebrated World Children's Day for the first time. Kids have taken over and the blue tide reached iconic landmarks and newsrooms!
On the 17th of November, children took over the stage to talk about their rights in the center of Vientiane. The celebration was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Sonexay Siphandone, Octavian Bivol, UNICEF Representative, and other high-level government officials.
On the 20th of November, kids took over the social media channels of 3 national celebrities Louknum Vongsili, Alexson Sitthiso and Sam Intharaphithak the news at Lao National Television and the news at Lao National Radio. Through these platforms, children had a unique opportunity to voice their concerns, share their dreams and call on leaders to act.
In preparation for this first World Children’s Day, students from different schools around Vientiane spent two days understanding the importance of World Children’s Day, learning how to develop their scripts and practicing techniques of speaking in public and presenting on-air. Not only did they have an opportunity to learn new skills, but they were also able to speak up for children all around Laos and talk about issues such as clean water, education, health and child rights.
