Ending violence against children in Lao PDR (2018)
A multi-sectoral response to the national Violence against Children Survey
Priority Actions to Address Violence against Children in Lao PDR | 2018 In 2014, the Lao Statistics Bureau and the National Commission for Mothers and Children (now the National Commission for the Advancement of Women, Mothers and Children) led the implementation of Lao PDR’s first national Violence against Children Survey. The research was undertaken in collaboration with the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare and the Lao Women’s Union, with technical and financial support from UNICEF and the United States Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The survey provides reliable estimates of the prevalence of physical, emotional and sexual violence against children and information about the circumstances in which childhood violence occurs. The findings are an essential first step towards preventing violence against children and making the institutions that provide protection and services to children accountable.
