Kyrgyz Post and UNICEF partnered to issue a special edition of postage stamps dedicated to the 30th anniversary of Kyrgyzstan’s joining the Convention on the Rights of the Child. The stamps feature iconic figures for Kyrgyz children – characters from the first popular Kyrgyz animated series Keremet Koch. The stamps can be used by children throughout the country to participate in an essay contest dedicated to the rights of children.

“The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child is an important agreement by countries who have committed to protect children’s rights. It has been 30 years since Kyrgyzstan joined the Convention confirming its commitment to improve children’s wellbeing in the country. We are pleased to partner with Kyrgyz Post to mark this important milestone by issuing the first postage mark dedicated to children” noted Samman Jung Thapa, UNICEF Representative to Kyrgyzstan.

The postage mark was designed by the popular artist and illustrator Tatyana Zelenskaya. The characters beloved by thousands of children across Kyrgyzstan were adapted to fit the postage stamp format.

“These beautiful postage stamps can be used to participate in the essay contest that we jointly organized with UNICEF. The contest is open for children from 9 to 15 years old. Anyone who wishes to participate can submit their essays via Kyrgyz Post postal offices throughout the country using the new stamps” noted the general director of “Kyrgyz Post” JSC Marat Cherikchiev.

Send your works for a chance to win a notebook, an electronic tablet, a smartphone, and other prizes. More information about the contest is on UNICEF website.

The Convention on the Rights of the Child is an international human rights treaty that explains who children are, all their rights, and the responsibilities of governments. Kyrgyzstan ratified the treaty in 1994 and became one of 196 countries around the world who joined the treaty.
